too many menus menus for different types of buildable stuff

Imo its much better to have as much as possible on one page and take up 3/4 columns rather than just 2. If it doesn't fit on one page then allow two.

Within the page, I think it definately makes sense to sort into categories, but flicking between menus is time consuming and frustrating to do fast because the menu switchers are small buttons. Maybe have a thin header text between different categories?

Well this is a tough one. Some constructors can only make 3 defensive buildings. Some can make 16. If it's going to be consistent, basically I have write it with that 16 in mind not the 3.

Personally I never click the tabs I just use my scroll wheel, which takes almost no time at all. I suppose my end game would be to get keyboard shortcuts involved..

There are already good keyboard shortcuts for the commonest buildings, so no need for more of those.

Let me think about how to do this and I'll get back to you.

I think that the most easy approach would be to add yet another button/tab/menu to the whole shebang. Call it "ALL", put it at the bottom (or top) and make it behave like the original one (sort by arbitrary importance).

I'd like it to just default to an 'all' tab, while keeping the other tabs below it for when you want them. The way I currently set up the widget (for performance reasons) won't allow that though, so I'll have to think it over. Basically because it creates only one button for each buildable unit at initialization, which can never have more than one parent at a time.

I could do a check and if a buildCommands < x have it default to a simple view without categories.

Whatever I end up with I'll create some options in the interface menu so players can get the behavior that best suits them.
