After [4799] it draws the unit, but opacity is broken - The unit that it does draw looks a bit oddly textured to me.

I can't fix this without learning more opengl than I have time for.

you want gl.UnitShape(..., raw=false, toScreen=false, opaque=false)

thanks, i should have read the changelog more carefully & ignored ...

(actually, we want gl.UnitShape?(..., raw=false, toScreen=true, opaque=false) since it's in DrawScreen)
